Why should I join Air Cadets?

Royal Canadian Air Cadets participate in a variety of fun and challenging activities. There is something for everyone – no matter what their personal interests may be. You can learn more about the training at 504 RCACS here and about Air Cadets in general here.

Who are the staff?

The staff of 504 RCACS are a dedicated group of Canadian Forces Officers and Civilian/Parent Volunteers.

The Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC) is a sub-component of the Reserve Force. It consists of about 6000 officers who have undertaken, by the terms of their enrollment, to perform such military duty and training as may be required of them, but whose primary duty is to fulfill a youth training function in the supervision, administration, and training of cadets.

Civilian and Parent Volunteers are screened by the Air Cadet League of Canada, and contribute their time to the Cadet Program supporting the Squadron staff functions.

How much does it cost?

It doesn’t. (Yes, you read that right.)

Who funds the program?

The Cadet Program is funding jointly by the Department of National Defence and the Friends of 504 Support Association. Cadets and parents are asked to participate in fundraising efforts throughout the year to raise funds for parts of the program not covered by DND.

How much time do I have to commit?

There is a minimum requirement for all cadets: every Wednesday evening from September to June, and the occasional weekend training activity. Beyond that, it’s really up to you! There are lots of optional activities to choose from, such as the Drill Team or the Band, and you’ll also have the opportunity to apply for summer training.

Do I have to join the Canadian Forces?

No. However, many Cadets do choose a career in the Canadian Forces upon completing the program, but there is no requirement for service.
